In January 2015, scour prevention work was urgently needed on the railway bridge alongside the M8 over Blackcart Water in Renfrewshire.
Amco Rail were tasked with completing the project on time while minimising its impact on the environment. Initially, Amco faced issues accessing the land. As the river is tidal, they needed to act quickly to meet the strict deadlines.
We asked Amco why they chose NATCEM® 35 for this project, and they responded:
“We knew NATCEM® 35 would be ideal, as we had used it on similar jobs before.”
“Its quick-setting properties allowed us to complete the work swiftly, without negatively impacting the environment.”
NATCEM® 35 contains no added chemicals, ensuring it’s completely safe for rivers like Blackcart Water, which is home to many brown trout and salmon. This was critical in ensuring minimal environmental disruption during the scour prevention railway bridge work.
In addition, NATCEM® 35 doesn’t require any mixing with water before use. It was mixed with a chip mix and placed into environmentally friendly sandbags. The moisture content in the mix activated the NATCEM® 35, which set quickly inside the bag. These sandbags were then positioned inside gabion baskets, securing them around the foundations of the railway bridge.
This method allowed Amco Rail to perform efficient scour prevention work on the railway bridge while ensuring environmental safety. The use of NATCEM® 35 made it possible to finish the work quickly, ensuring the work was done in time without any adverse effects.
