Natural Cement’s NATCEM® 35 was successfully employed for critical repairs and maintenance on the canal wall adjacent to Silverthorne Lane in Bristol.
The project was part of the redevelopment efforts for Plot 5, located along the banks of the Bristol City canal.
The canal wall, primarily constructed from masonry, required extensive repointing and void filling to restore its structural integrity. Inspections revealed multiple areas of open jointing, vegetation growth, and significant voids in the masonry, particularly around the waterline.
After thorough de-vegetation and cleaning, including the removal of debris and marine growth, NATCEM® 35 was applied in several critical areas. The product’s ability to set underwater without a primer and its fast-setting properties made it the ideal solution for these challenging conditions. The team utilized NATCEM® 35 for repointing at the waterline, ensuring a robust and durable repair that would withstand the harsh canal environment.
Diver teams also conducted underwater repairs within the tidal zone, where NATCEM® 35’s anti-washout properties and underwater setting capabilities were crucial. These repairs were essential in preventing further deterioration of the wall and ensuring the longevity of the structure.
NATCEM® 35’s DWI Reg. 31 approval for potable water made it the perfect choice for this project, providing peace of mind that the repairs would not only be structurally sound but also environmentally safe for the canal’s ecosystem.
