NATCEM® 35 courtesy of Natural Cement was used to great success for repairs as well as innovative maintenance at Arbroath Harbour on the North-East coast of Scotland.
The harbour is used by fishing boats as well as commercial vessels and small leisure craft. Inspection was undertaken and the necessary repairs were outlined across various areas of the harbour and outer breakwaters. On the south harbour entrance, a multicat vessel was used to access the identified repair area where debris and marine growth was removed from the harbour wall which allowed the application of sprayed concrete to infill voids.
After this was completed, repairs to the north harbour entrance were underway with the location being accessed by workboat. Marine growth was washed away with a jet wash before voids were filled using our own NATCEM® 35 mortar. NATCEM® 35 was perfect for this purpose owing to its ability to set in and around water with no primer, fast-setting times, and without needing a curing period.
This repair mortar is one that, on top of its massive list of benefits, positive properties and potential applications – also carries a massive history, with its roots in roman cement – and earlier iterations of natural cement (the substance, not us) being used in the Roman Colloseum and in the plinth foundations of the Statue of Liberty.
Underwater repairs were also undertaken to areas of the harbour wall within the tidal zone. NATCEM® 35 is a perfect product for divers to apply owing to its underwater setting capabilities as well as its anti-washout properties while being DWI Reg. 31 approved for potable water, suitable for both drinking water environments and marine life.
