Dryfix Preservation Ltd carried out remedial works at a property in Bishopthorpe, York. The wider scheme included floor repairs in identified areas. However, the NATCEM® 35 application related specifically to the wall repair at Location 1. Dryfix’s specification for that area included removing skirting boards and plaster to the recommended height, replastering with a specialist chemical-and moisture-resilient plaster, and applying a skim finish.
During inspection, Dryfix identified dampness around the fireplace area. The survey also noted excess moisture in the skirting boards and low-level plaster. In addition, the report highlighted a likely breach where the wall plaster extended into contact with the floor. An unusual course of brick along the party wall also appeared to impede the damp proofing below the floor.
To address the affected area, Dryfix removed the damaged low-level plaster and associated skirting boards. The team then rebuilt the wall repair using NATCEM® 35, which Dryfix selected for its chemical- and water-resistant properties. Before application, the blockwork was either brushed down with water or sealed with an SBR bonding agent.
Dryfix applied NATCEM® 35 as a two-coat system. Typically, each layer measured around 10mm. The team then feathered the repair back to suit a skim coat finish. As a result, the contractor restored the original backing coat depth while keeping the repair focused on the affected wall area.
This project shows how NATCEM® 35 can support targeted wall repairs in moisture-affected environments. Rather than treating the whole room, Dryfix repaired the specific area that required attention. That approach allowed the contractor to deal with the damaged wall efficiently while separate floor works formed part of the wider remedial package.
Fraser Rafton of Dryfix Preservation Ltd said:
“Natcem 35 is a great product to use for localised plaster repairs where the presence of chemical attack have been identified. Its quick drying time and workability allow for quick application of layers reducing labour time and speed up the overall project timescales. A multipurpose product that we can rely on time and time again giving us great results in terms of finish and reliability.”
