    Rapid Repair for Food Factories – NATCEM® 35

    The Problem

    Specialist contractor Frescrete Ltd recently undertook a series of urgent concrete floor repairs across multiple food factory sites in Yorkshire. 

    The work took place in active, hygienically controlled environments. Furthermore, these were areas where downtime had to be minimal. Consequently, the traditional method—PU resin screeds—wasn’t suitable. Failures in existing screeds had already caused operational problems. Additionally, PU resin’s two-day minimum cure time made reapplication impractical. Ultimately, production simply couldn’t be paused that long.

    The Solution

    Frescrete used NATCEM® 35 for the repairs. Specifically, a rapid-setting, DWI Reg.31-approved mortar for concrete patch repairs. Moreover, the product was dyed green to match surrounding areas within a tight timeframe. Thanks to its 35-minute set and one-hour cure, the floors were ready the same day. As a result, production continued without disruption.

    In another part of the job, NATCEM® 35 was also used uncoloured at the door threshold of a distribution facility (visible below). Similar challenges around durability, hygiene and turnaround times were present.

    The Why

    NATCEM® 35 was chosen for more than performance. Additionally, it offered key advantages in food production environments. Its 35-minute set time and rapid strength gain ensured zero disruption to production. Moreover, DWI Reg.31 approval made it safe and non-toxic for food-related areas. This was vital for compliance. In addition, its versatility allowed colour-matching where needed. Otherwise, it worked just as well when used as-is. Having already proven its reliability on previous Frescrete projects (such as these Leeds tower blocks), NATCEM® 35 was the natural choice.

    The Result

    Thanks to the expert application and workmanship of Frescrete and the numerous beneficial properties of our NATCEM 35 repair mortar – the jobs were completed quickly and also to great effect. Speaking on the work – Frescrete Contracts Director, Joshua McKinlay, had this to say:
